For years, diners were handed a limited menu when it came to Indian restaurants. They could choose either upscale, fine-dining establishments or low-end curry shops. There was no middle ground. That is, until the first Café Spice opened in July 1998. Centrally located near Union Square, the bistro attracted a diverse crowd, including students from New York University, Parsons and other nearby colleges. Since then, many other Café Spice bistros have opened around the Northeast in the wake of the first bistro’s success, including this Express location in Grand Central Terminal.
At Café Spice Express, you can get the same great food at regular Café Spice locations, but you get it faster!
Lamb Vindaloo—Boneless Lamb cooked in spicy/tangy sauce with cubes of potatoes

Malai Kebab—Grilled boneless chicken cubes marinated in seasoned yogurt, cream cheese and cashew paste
Saag Paneer—Homemade cheese cooked in spinach sauce
Chicken Tikka Roll—Chicken tikkas rolled in Roomali roti
Paneer Lababdar—Cubes of homemade cheese in a creamy tomato sauce
Biryani Chicken—Marinated pieces of chicken cooked with basmati rice
Café Spice’s renown extends far beyond its immediate vicinity. It has received critical acclaim from a bevy of local and national publications, including:
Gourmet Magazine
New York Magazine
Time Out New York
Interior Design
Nation’s Restaurant Magazine, where it was a “Hot Concept” for 2005
In 1998, after realizing the need to offer diners a middle ground in Indian food, Sushil Malhotra, founder of Dawat, New York’s most acclaimed Indian restaurant, decided to take Indian cuisine to a new level. With that goal in mind, Mr. Malhotra joined with Rajesh Bhardwaj to create a vibrant and contemporary Indian bistro—Café Spice.

This may actually be the worse Indian I've ever had. Bland. Messy. Overpriced. Cold.

The food is good deal and your standard Indian fare, but it took these guys 3 times the amount of time they said it would take to get here, and then the delivery guy called me saying he was here, but he wasn't - instead, I spent 20 minutes in the lobby of my building giving him directions to my place. The food is fine, but not worth the hassle when you can get the same quality Indian food elsewhere.

There are a few Cafe Spice places in the city, but this one is by far my favorite. The food is delicious and quantity filling for one person. I tried their samosa, aloo tikki, saag paneer, paneer tikka masala, and okra potato, and all of them were tasty. Very good food at decent prices. Just wish they would give roti instead of rice with the platter.

I have placed a order a couple of times. But, this last time was it. The services delivery person was rude nasty, and very unprofessional, he was cursing at me and yellying at me. simply because I was explaing the building policy on deliveries. I called the Cafe Spice and they did nothing about. The manager didn't even call back to apologize.. It was truly a unforgottenable experience. I will never order from them again. Which is sad because there non-veggie combo is very good.
